On January 8th, 2024, the China Energy Storage CEO Conference and the preliminary round of the 8th International Energy Storage Innovation Competition were held in Guangzhou. The conference, with the theme of "Building Hard Core Energy Storage Strength and Promoting Global Development of Energy Storage", is based in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area. Shi Yubo stated that in recent years, China's new energy storage industry has developed rapidly. In 2023, the installed capacity of new energy storage in China reached a new high, with the annual added installed capacity exceeding 45GWh, three times the installed capacity level in 2022. At the same time, various regions across the country attach great importance to the development of the energy storage industry. The competent departments at all levels have issued nearly 700 energy storage related policies, continuously promoting the high-quality development of China's new energy storage industry. The rapid development of the energy storage industry is thanks to strong policy support, increased market demand, technological progress, and continuous improvement of business models and market mechanisms. Overall, the trend of large-scale application of the energy storage industry is gradually emerging.
Guo Yuehua said that the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee and the Guangdong Provincial People's Government attach great importance to the development of the new energy storage industry, and clearly proposed to build the new energy storage industry into a strategic pillar industry of Guangdong's "manufacturing industry leadership". Since last year, the province has made systematic efforts in improving the policy system, tackling key technologies, building major projects, and exploring application scenarios, and the development of the new energy storage industry has shown a booming trend.
Mou Zhiping stated that currently, Guangzhou has built a number of national and provincial energy storage innovation platforms, and the new energy storage industry in the city is showing a good development trend. Last November, the National Local Co construction of the New Energy Storage Innovation Center was officially approved by the national ministries and settled in Baiyun District, Guangzhou. This is the first manufacturing innovation center jointly built by the country and local governments, and it is also a landmark event for the innovative development of new energy storage in Guangzhou.
Pan Zhijun stated that new energy is a major opportunity for Baiyun District to achieve "lane changing overtaking". He predicted that in 2030 and 2060, the scale of new energy storage in the Southern Power Grid region will exceed 30 million kilowatts and 95 million kilowatts. Rao Hong suggested that the "15th Five Year Plan" for power planning should be more clear and specific in energy storage planning, so that energy storage can truly become an indispensable element in the new power system and new energy system.
Professor Yang Yong from Xiamen University gave a keynote report titled "Decay Failure Mechanism and Life Prediction of Energy Storage Batteries". Ms. Yue Fen, Deputy Secretary General and Associate Researcher of the Zhongguancun Energy Storage Industry Technology Alliance, gave a keynote speech on "Annual Review and Trend Outlook of the Energy Storage Industry - and 2023 Energy Storage Industry Data Release", and released the energy storage data for 2023. In 2023, the number of new energy storage projects in China (including planning, construction, and operation projects) exceeded 2500, an increase of 46% compared to 2022. The newly added operating scale is 21.5GW/46.6GWh, three times the newly added operating scale in 2022.

The competition collected 262 projects, and 189 of them were shortlisted for the preliminary round. After intense competition and fair selection, a total of 77 projects from 10 tracks won the Excellent Project Award in the preliminary round of this competition.
