The ton-level vehicle for magnesium-based solid-state hydrogen storage has officially made its debut, with a maximum storage capacity of up to one ton.
On April 13th, the ton-level vehicle for magnesium-based solid-state hydrogen storage jointly developed by Shanghai Jiao Tong University and other relevant enterprises and institutions was officially unveiled.
This vehicle is 13.3 meters long, with a maximum hydrogen storage capacity of one ton. The vehicle is loaded with 12 hydrogen storage containers, each filled with magnesium-based solid-state hydrogen storage materials. Hydrogen is stored in magnesium alloy materials, transforming from a gas transport to a solid transport. It can achieve long-distance, safe storage and transportation of hydrogen at room temperature and pressure, and has the ability to store and release hydrogen in large capacity, high density, and long-term circulation.
Ding Wenjiang, academician of the CAE, says that if it is a traditional high-pressure gaseous long tube trailer, the maximum hydrogen storage capacity is less than 300kg, about 250kg of hydrogen storage, which is now equivalent to four times of it, and the cost of hydrogen transportation is about one-third of that of long tube vehicles.
Zou Jianxin, Deputy Director of the Hydrogen Science Center at Shanghai Jiao Tong University: this kind of vehicle has a very high volume and mass density, which is its great advantage.
Hydrogen energy is recognized as a clean energy source worldwide. According to experts, storage and transportation account for 30% -50% of the entire cost in the existing hydrogen energy industry chain. The key to the application of hydrogen energy is safe and efficient hydrogen energy storage and transportation technology.
