Recently, the 1:16 model of the world's third-generation tower-barrel-free floating wind turbines. which is named T-Omega, has been set offshore in New Bedford, Massachusetts, USA, and began testing in open waters.
T-Omega is a floating wind-power generation system developed by T-Omega Wind Co. The hub and blades are supported by four steel columns instead of a tower, which greatly reduces the amount of steel used. The semi-submersible foundation at the bottom is connected at multiple points through a truss, improving stability.
T-Omega does not have a tower barrel and will not actively sheer, so it adopts the downwind wind-power generation approach, which is fixed on the seabed through single point mooring and can passively respond to the wind according to the wind direction.
